Introduction
To meet the demand of water utilities for upgrading traditional mechanical water meters to enable automatic data collection, the postpaid AMR/AMI smart meter module (MIU) has been designed and developed. This module collects water consumption data from traditional mechanical meters using pulse output or non-magnetic sampling methods, and uploads the data to an information management system using multiple communication technologies such as LoRa, LoRaWAN, GPRS, and NB-IoT for data analysis and bill generation.
Application Scenarios
Upgrading of Traditional Mechanical Water Meters: suitable for water utilities that need to upgrade existing traditional mechanical water meters to achieve automated data collection and management
Wide Area Coverage: ideal for large-scale water utility systems, ensuring that data from all meters is uploaded in real-time
High-Density Areas: suitable for high-density communities or areas, supporting efficient data collection and management
Component
Smart Meter Module (MIU): integrates pulse output and non-magnetic sampling functions to collect data from traditional mechanical water meters and supports multiple communication technologies
LoRa/LoraWAN/GPRS/NB-IoT Communication Modules: supports various communication methods, allowing the most suitable technology to be selected for data transmission based on requirements
Information Management System: used to receive and analyze meter data, generate monthly bills and reports, and provide decision support
Work Process
Data Collection: the smart meter module collects water consumption data from traditional mechanical water meters through pulse output or non-magnetic sampling
Data Upload: the collected data is uploaded to the information management system via communication modules such as LoRa, LoRaWAN, GPRS, or NB-IoT
Data Processing and Report Generation: the information management system processes the data and generates monthly bills and diverse graphical reports
Decision Support: the system provides data analysis results to help water utilities make informed decisions
Advantages
Upgrade of Traditional Meters: provides automated data collection capabilities for existing mechanical meters without the need to replace the entire meter
Flexible Communication Methods: supports multiple communication methods such as LoRa, LoRaWAN, GPRS, and NB-IoT, adapting to different area and environmental needs
Remote Automated Management: data is automatically uploaded and monitored in real-time, reducing manual intervention and improving operational efficiency
Cost Savings: the retrofit solution does not require meter replacement, reducing operational and maintenance costs
Diverse Reports: provides monthly bills and graphical reports, helping water utilities analyze user water consumption more effectively
